The Mousehole Curriculum - an overview

Curriculum Intent

At Mousehole School we aim to achieve a happy, successful, warm, caring environment where children learn the knowledge and skills they need to reach their full potential and to be ready for the next step in their education. We aim to make the best of every opportunity to develop confidence, respect and a love of learning in all members of the school community.

Implementation

At Mousehole School we passionately believe that the primary school curriculum experience should be a wide and varied one. We rigorously and methodically teach children to read, write and use maths and we also teach them a wide range of knowledge and skills that we believe are important for making them happy and productive members of society.

Impact

We monitor our curriculum through internal procedures involving all teaching staff and regular learning forums involving the Local Monitoring Committee and staff. We work closely and openly with the Truro Penwith Education Trust to ensure our judgements are moderated externally and lead to further improvements in curriculum delivery.

At Mousehole School teachers have carefully planned and deliver an engaging sequence of  lessons for each subject area ensuring progression and coverage to build on prior knowledge. You can find details of the skills and knowledge taught at each stage of the Mousehole Curriculum under each subject heading. Our curriculum meets the requirements of the National Curriculum programmes of study but it is our intention that the Mousehole Curriculum also offers a wider and more bespoke body of knowledge and skills to the children who attend Mousehole School.

Alongside the curriculum, each term we focus on a different set of themed learning skills as part of assemblies and classroom work. These give children an understanding of how they learn and how they can make the most out of being members of a learning community. There is more detail in the download below but we have six areas we focus on:
